The name Colterris was derived by combining a three letter abbreviation of Colorado “Col” with the Latin word “terris” meaning from the land

Colterris Cabernet Sauvignon originates primarily from grapes grown in the sun and soil of Theresa’s Vineyard on East Orchard Mesa south of Palisade located in Colorado's beautiful and picturesque Western Slope. Situated in the heart of the Grand Valley AVA, this unique vineyard site at 4,600 feet in elevation is protected by the foothills of the Grand Mesa immediately to the south and east and by close proximity to the Colorado River directly to the north and west.  This combination of high altitude sunlight and cool river nights produce a distinctively bold red wine, rich in color, flavor and smooth tannins.

Theresa’s Vineyard is a 19 acre vineyard site of which 16.0 acres were planted with 20,700 vines in 2001.  The vineyard currently has six clones of Cabernet Sauvignon with another 1.75+ acres available for future plantings.  The Cabernet Sauvignon clonal mix is Clone 7 - 50%, Clone 24 - 15%, Clone 337 - 14%, Clone 4 - 14%, Clone 2 - 6%, and Clone 5197 – 1%.  The vineyard was professionally hand-planted by Tony Fernandez, the vineyard manager for High Country Orchards and Vineyards.  Tony has over 35 years experience in viticulture in Napa Valley, California and he continues to oversee the production of these vineyards.

The 2008 Colterris is 95% Cabernet Sauvignon from Theresa’s Vineyard, 3% Malbec from Erickson Vineyard and 2% Merlot from Frye, Two Rivers, and Talbott Vineyards all located in the Grand Valley AVA.  The wine was aged in French and American oak barrels for 18 months and 1,084 cases of this premier release were bottled in July 2010.  The wine has 14.3% alcohol, pH 3.54, and TA (total acidity) 6.3 g/L.
